Spire Global has announced an expanded agreement with Australian IoT company Myriota to design, build, and operate 16 new satellites carrying advanced second-generation payloads. The deal strengthens Myriota's partnership with Spire Space Services and extends its total satellite fleet to over 40 spacecraft.

The collaboration, which began in 2021, has enabled Myriota to scale its Internet of Things (IoT) platform by leveraging Spire satellites equipped to host and execute Myriota's proprietary network software. With the latest agreement, Myriota takes a further step by integrating its technology into dedicated satellite hardware.

"In a world where IoT connectivity is increasingly crucial, satellites and space technology are more than just tools; they are foundational to the future of global communication networks," said Spire Global CEO Theresa Condor. "As Myriota's constellation grows, so does our collaboration with them, expanding from software to hardware with payloads that address the critical gaps in IoT communication."

The expanded constellation will provide Myriota customers with improved global coverage, faster data retrieval, enhanced security, and better control over IoT devices. This includes remote firmware updates and increased reliability for long-life sensor deployments.

"Across sectors from agriculture and water to logistics, satellite-connected IoT sensors offer unparalleled insights into operations and are driving dramatic improvements in operational efficiency," said Ben Cade, CEO of Myriota. "We are delighted to be working with Spire to further extend our network to help more industries, in more countries gain critical intelligence from the field."

The agreement underscores Myriota's goal to deliver energy-efficient, globally accessible IoT services that contribute to more sustainable and informed decision-making.
