Nuclear power's role in cutting carbon emissions will be a major topic at SMR and Advanced Reactor 2022 in Atlanta, Reuters Events announced today.

The world's foremost event for advanced and small modular reactors (SMRs) will take place in the Georgia state capital on May 24 and 25, bringing together more than 500 experts together in a sector that could be key in the global fight against climate change.

Confirmed speakers include Nuclear Energy Institute Chief Executive Officer Maria Korsnick, Ontario Power Generation Vice President of New Nuclear Robin Manley, Rolls Royce SMR Chief Executive Officer Tom Samson, and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Chairman, Christopher T. Hanson.

Also appearing at the event will be Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission President and Chief Executive Officer Rumina Velshi, NB Power Chief Nuclear Officer Brett Plummer and Global First Power President and Chief Executive Officer Dominique Miniere.

"The momentum in SMRs and advanced reactor investments is really picking up," said Katie Silver, Nuclear and Energy transition Project Director at Reuters Events. "We look forward to seeing the progress the industry can make in the decades to come."

SMR and Advanced Reactor 2022 will see market leaders sharing the latest technological, regulatory and investment intelligence from across the industry and discussing the future of nuclear energy in replacing fossil fuels for baseload power generation. More than 50 executive speakers will be present at the event, in the most impressive line-up the industry has ever seen. The brochure for the two days of learning and networking is available for order now. Four key content pillars will be covered in the conference, focusing on:

+ Generating investment in SMRs and the nuclear market, covering tried-and-tested pathways to opening dialogue with the public sector, supporting project development in non-financial ways and key success indicators that investors are looking for.

+ Nuclear energy's part in the energy transition, delving into how SMRs can augment clean power generation through colocation, the business case for nuclear in the energy mix and the latest developments in spent fuel technology and disposal techniques.

+ Nuclear talent, diversity and inclusion, looking at practical approaches to employee management, maintaining a flow of talent, avoiding talent acquisition pitfalls and delivering local community benefits through SMRs.

+ Commercialization of SMRs and Generation IV reactors, including an update on the design maturity of SMRs, licensing harmonization, first-mover advantages and risks and deployment timelines and ecosystems.

SMR and Advanced Reactor 2022 will feature an industry-leading 40 percent utility and end-user attendance ratio and include world-class presentations, panels, interviews, and workshops.

Present at the in-person event will be some of the biggest names in the nuclear sector, including Framatome, GE Hitachi, NuScale Power, Ontario Power Generation, Westinghouse, Worley and Urenco.

"This is a unique opportunity to join hundreds of senior-level executives from business, finance and government in helping to make 2022 a decisive year for nuclear energy's future," said Katie. "From investment strategies to unlocking net zero, we will cover all the key topics facing the sector."

SMR and Advanced Reactor 2022 will be held at the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel in Atlanta, United States, on May 24 to 25. For more information, visit here or write to .

Brussels weathers backlash over calling gas and nuclear sustainable
Brussels (AFP) Feb 2, 2022
The European Commission on Wednesday defied angry dissent from EU governments and protests from green campaigners to give a sustainable finance label to investments in both gas and nuclear power. Austria warned it will go to court to try to halt the measure, while Germany - which backed the inclusion of gas - called extending the labelling to nuclear "unacceptable". Critics of nuclear energy point to the threat posed by accidents and nuclear waste, while opponents of gas want to discourage inv ... read more
