KazCosmos

The National Space Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan, also known as KazCosmos, or KazKosmos, is Kazakhstan's national space agency, and was officially established on March 27, 2007.

KazSat 1: The previous year, on June 18, 2006, the communications satellite KazSat 1 was launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome, marking the beginning of Kazakhstan's independent space program. In 2008 communications with the satellite ended, and it was declared lost.

KazSat 2: The next planned satellite, KazSat 2, has experienced a series of delays, but was launched on July 16th 2011 on board a Proton rocket. KazSat 2 was built by Krunichev and Thales Alenia Space Italy.

KazSat 3: KazCosmos signed also the contract with ISS-Reshetnev and Thales Alenia Space Italy on June 21st 2011 for the third telecommunications satellite, named KazSat 3.

Surrey Space Centre (SSC)

The Surrey Space Centre (SSC) is a research centre for Space Engineering. Our strategy is to underpin the technical development of the space industry through its advanced research programmes.

The SCC is specialised for small, low cost space missions, generating leading research and bringing innovation to our spin-out company SSTL and pushing the boundaries of low cost small satellite applications to develop next generation low cost small satellite technologies.

Surrey's pioneering small satellite activities started in 1979 as an academic activity at the University, leading to the formation of a successful spin-out company Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL). Astrium acquired SSTL in 2009 and established a long-term strategic collaboration with the University to further advance the University's cutting edge space research capacity.

We provide well focused space engineering undergraduate, postgraduate and industrial short courses, training the next generation space scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs and business leaders.

The SCC academic research laboratories cover advanced multidisciplinary small satellite and space system engineering techniques for Earth orbit and interplanetary space; innovative communications, remote sensing, robotics and space science payloads for small satellites; and enabling technologies for low cost space exploitation and planetary exploration.

Euclid satellite

Euclid is an ESA mission selected for launch in 2019 in the Cosmic Vision 2015-2025 programme. The main goal of Euclid is to understand the origin of the accelerating expansion of the Universe. To achieve this, it is proposed to build a satellite equipped with a 1.2 m telescope and three imaging and spectroscopic instruments working in the visible and near-infrared wavelength domains.

The primary goall is to understand the nature of dark energy and dark matter by accurate measurement of the accelerated expansion of the Universe through different independent methods.
